About This Course

Developing coaching skills at every level of an organization is the key to unlocking potential and increasing engagement. When conducted effectively, coaching can dramatically improve performance, shape careers, engage and energise talent, and prepare teams to manage change. The program will helps managers build a coaching mindset and discover tools to have effective coaching discussions to improve performance and help talent realise their full potential.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a coaching mindset and a coaching habit
  • Ask effective questions that trigger thought, reflection, and dialogue
  • Follow a structure process to drive and document a coaching conversation

Skill Drill 1: Developing a Coaching Mindset

In this session, participants identify the difference between Directive, Laissez-faire, Non-directive, and Situational styles. Participants understand when to use which style and focus specifically on the Situational style. Participants also discover what coaching entails.

Skill Drill 2: Art of Questioning

In this session, participants appreciate the importance of questions and practice effective questioning. Participants work with a set of question nudge cards that are centered around:

  • Kick starting a discussion
  • Inquiry
  • Reflection
  • Alternatives

Participants build a repertoire of questions. They also get a set of nudge cards to guide their coaching discussions.

Skill Drill 3: The Coaching Process

In this session, participants work through a structured process of carrying out a coaching discussion.

  1. Step 1: Defining the agenda
  2. Step 2: Kickstart
  3. Step 3: Trigger Inquiry
  4. Step 4: Focus on Values, Behaviours, Drives, Skills
  5. Step 5: Explore alternatives
  6. Step 6: Document the discussion and identify next steps

Skills Drill 4: Reflection and Summary

A guided session to share learning and insights from the workshop. Participants complete their learning journal and action plan.
