About This Course
Imagine a world with hands to give, but none to receive. Feedback is a beautiful gift. It can throw light on areas unknown to the self. It can help a person identify their strengths and areas of improvement. Research has shown that feedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning and achievement. How can we prepare for and make the most of a feedback discussion? What mindset should we go into a feedback discussion with? What kind of questions can we ask and probe on? This virtual workshop is focused on developing the mindset and skills to receive feedback.

Skill Drill 1: From Unconscious/Conscious Incompetence to Conscious Competence (30 minutes)
Participants will explore the 4 stages of competence and identify how feedback is one of the best methods to move from Unconscious/Conscious Incompetence to Conscious Competence.
Skill Drill 2: Preparing for Feedback (30 minutes)
Participants will explore strategies to prepare for feedback:
- Goal-Based Feedback
- Task-Based Feedback
- Skill/Competency-based Feedback
- Behavioral Feedback
Participants will identify their goals from the feedback discussion for each area.
Skill Drill 3: Core Skills – Questioning and Reasoning (1 hour)
Participants will explore active questioning, listening and note taking strategies to make the most of their feedback discussions. Participants will identify strategies to probe the person who is providing feedback to gain deep understanding of the areas in focus.
Skill Drill 4: Keeping Emotions in Control
Emotional responses can cloud people’s judgement and reduce the impact of feedback. In this section, we will explore strategies to reduce emotions and increase the information flow during a feedback discussion.
